We thoroughly research a job before starting work, thus avoiding costly problems later. We use good quality materials. We keep customers updated throughout the project. We have exacting standards. We complete jobs on time, on budget and to specification.

Site Preparation

We clear sites of non-hazardous waste, rubble and unwanted materials, including the demolition of single-storey buildings. If hazardous waste is known or suspected, we liaise with the appropriate authorised bodies for its removal. Sites are left tidy, clean and level, and ready for the next stage of the project.

Foundations

We can lay three different types of foundations, depending upon ground conditions and architects' requirements. Standard 'strip foundations', with concrete filled trenches, offer good strength for most situations. If more strength is required 'reinforced foundations' incorporate steel mesh into the concrete. For soft-soil areas, such as peat, we use 'raft foundations' that allow for sub-soil movement.

Domestic utilities

We can do the preparatory excavation and ducting work for all the domestic utilities of gas, electricity, water and BT cabling within a site's boundaries. We can also lay gas and water pipes. Our team are familiar with the latest industry regulations and will ensure that trenches are dug to the correct depth and then back-filled in the appropriate way to indicate where and what utilities are installed. All sites are levelled off and left clean and tidy.

Floor slabs

We offer three different types of floor slabs, depending upon architects' requirements and ground conditions. 'Block and beam' is a suspended floor of pre-cast, pre-stressed concrete beams that is well-suited to suspended flooring in housing, particularly where there is a likelihood of flooding. Our 'concrete' floor slabs include a damp-proof membrane and layers of aggregate, concrete and a top-layer of screed. If ground conditions are soft, we install 'suspended floor slabs' where slabs are supported by the building's walls. All floors are finished off with either a bull float, hand float or power float which gives a tough finish to prevent cracking.

Drainage

We can lay clay or plastic pipes for both rainwater and foul water systems. We can also install 'rainwater harvesting' systems to recycle rainwater; sometimes a requirement by local authorities. Rainwater from the roof is collected into underground storage tanks and then circulated around the building for uses such as washrooms and washing machines.

Footpaths, Driveways & Patios

We work with a variety of materials including stone, flagstones, concrete, gravel, block sets and permeable paving. The latter material is particularly useful in areas where there are problems of surface rainwater run-off.

We will advise on suitability of materials and any preparatory work necessary to ensure a strong and long-lasting finish. We can work to most designs or will help customers tailor-make specific patterns and layouts.
